It’s not difficult to look around the world we live in and see that this is a very dark place. It seems there is chaos everywhere. So, the question has been asked, why has God allowed such darkness in His world? Where is He? There is so much going on around the world, in our own country and perhaps even in your own life that seems cold and dark.
The answer is simple. When Adam and Eve, the first created beings by God, disobeyed God, it ushered in sin and death. Because God gave us this great gift called a free will, we get to choose how we want to live our lives. In other words, God did not make robots to just exist. His desire is that we chose to live the way He designed us to live and that we would choose Him. Unfortunately, many have not chosen God, and the way they choose to live their lives is a far cry from the way God would have us live. When we choose to ignore the light of God it only leaves darkness.
If we take that into consideration we can then draw the conclusion that it’s not that God allowed the darkness into the world, rather it is us who continue to make choices to live our lives the way we want. There are both natural consequences and spiritual consequences to these decisions.
God would prefer we make decisions that reflect His light. That we live in such a way that we not have to deal with these consequences. He gave us His blueprint on how to make better decisions that our lives be full of the light of His love.
God is light. When we are in His presence there are no shadows. When we live in His presence, our lives have no shadows – people see exactly who you are. Those that live in the darkness, tend to have things going on in their lives that they try to keep hidden. It’s either because they are embarrassed by those things and don’t want anyone to know the real person that they are. They have hidden agendas and motives and lifestyles. The place to keep such things is in the darkness, hidden from view.
Isaiah 9 verse 2 tells us:
the people living in darkness
have seen a great light;
on those living in the land of the shadow of death
a light has dawned.”
And we see in John 1:1-4, the following:
1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was with God in the beginning. 3 Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. 4 In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind. 5 The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome[a] it.
That light has a name…Jesus. You can put your trust in him today that you may be in the light.
